Larksfield Recreation Ground is an important and well-used space, enjoyed and valued by the local community. As part of Arun District Council’s work to tackle biodiversity loss and improve green spaces across the district, a small area of the site is being considered for a habitat bank. This will help protect and improve local habitats, making the space more diverse and better for both wildlife and people. This work is all about enhancing and improving what is already on the selected site, with each site having its own bespoke approach.

A habitat bank is an area of land that has been restored, created, or enhanced specifically for wildlife and nature, and then used to offset environmental damage caused by development occurring elsewhere. At Larksfield, this would involve introducing more diverse habitats, such as lowland meadows. Over time, it is hoped that these changes will bring more colour and seasonal interest, support wildlife, and make the space more enjoyable to visit.
